A Baldwinsville man, identified as Matthew Rendino Jr., 19, is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing approximately $1,500 worth of shoes from an apartment in Auburn. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning (March 31), according to the Auburn Police Department.

At about 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a report of a break-in at a residence on Owasco Street. The suspect reportedly entered the building’s second apartment and was seen leaving on foot. The victim, upon returning home, noticed the suspect walking down the sidewalk. When approached, the suspect fled, jumping over a fence into a nearby backyard.

The victim took a photo of a suspicious vehicle's license plate before discovering that 10 to 15 pairs of shoes were missing from the apartment. The Auburn Police Department identified Rendino as a possible suspect and issued an alert to Onondaga County. Approximately an hour later, the Baldwinsville Police Department stopped the suspect’s vehicle, with Rendino inside, and detained him.

Following his detention, Rendino was handed over to Auburn police officers. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, and the stolen shoes were found inside. Rendino faces charges of second-degree burglary, a Class C felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was processed at the Auburn Police Department and subsequently taken to Cayuga County Jail for a centralized arraignment court.
