Syracuse residents still have time to help shape the city's first-ever Climate Action Plan, with the public comment period open through Monday, April 21. Local officials say that community feedback will play a key role in revising the draft plan before it is presented to the Common Council later this year..

The draft Climate Action Plan outlines strategies for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and preparing neighborhoods for climate risks such as stronger storms and extreme heat. The plan highlights actions that local government, organizations, and communities can take to reduce climate change impacts, address aging infrastructure, and improve systems already in place. As reported by MSN News, these efforts build on Syracuse's past sustainability initiatives, which have already helped the city cut municipal emissions by 67 percent since 2010.

Mayor Sharon Owens has encouraged everyone in the community to participate, saying, "We want to hear from everyone—whether you are a climate advocate or new to the concept of sustainable solutions, all feedback will help us build a path that empowers our partners to prioritize climate resiliency when addressing the needs of our whole community today, and tomorrow."

Residents can review the draft plan and submit comments online through the city's Sustainable Syracuse website at syr.gov/sustainable-syracuse. After the comment period closes, city officials will use the feedback to revise the plan before it goes to the Common Council for final approval, as detailed by National Today.
