DOT says Grid The Best Option To Replace 81

Syracuse, N.Y. - The DOT has finally released their environmental impact study and choosen best option for replacing 81.

They have selected the “Community Grid” as the preferred choice to replace the aging portion of Interstate-81 through Syracuse.

The document, posted on DOT’s website, lays out all the options to replace 81 and says a community grid would likely best meet all the goals of the project.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has long supported the community grid plan and said in a release...“I am very glad that the DEIS is out, and I’m pleased that it identifies the Community Grid as the preferred alternative."

The DOT report says the grid would cost about $1.9 billion. Construction would begin in May 2020 and take about five years.
