EF2 Tornado Hits Scranton Wilkes-Barre

Strong storms moved through the North East yesterday and Scranton Wilkes-Barre got hit the hardest.

Police in Wilkes-Barre Township reported multiple collapsed buildings, and a shopping plaza in the community sustained severe damage. Cars and U-Haul trucks were tossed.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF2 tornado touched down and stayed on the ground for 3/4 of a mile. The winds reached up to 130 mph.

570 WSYR's Meteorologist John Furyk says its pretty rare to get an EF2 in June but yesterdays conditions right.

While there was substantial damage in the area, luckily no one was severely injured.
