Blue-Green Algae Level Lower in Skaneateles Lake

The levels of blue-green algae toxin in Skaneateles Lake are lower, but the algae is still there.

Samples from the lake tested Tuesday by the state found 0.19 parts per billion of the toxin present at the city of Syracuse Gatehouse, where water is collected for distribution from the lake.  City and county health officials say that while the level is lower than past readings and below EPA health advisory levels, it is not representative of the water supply that serves multiple cities and villages.  That water continues to be treated, resulting in non-detectables level of the algae toxin.  It's recommended that anyone drawing water directly from the lake avoid using it for drinking, cooking, or washing.
