An Oneida County orthopedic surgeon has been arrested after state investigators say he committed workers compensation fraud.

The State Inspector Generals Office has charged Doctor Gregory Shankman of Clinton with fraud after investigators raided his office. Shankman is accused of defrauding the system out of more than $14,000 by certifying that he was present at medical exams at his Utica office when he was actually traveling out of state and even out of the country.

Patients at his office were only seen by a physician's assistant who was not authorized to conduct those exams for Worker's Compensation Patients.
