School Bus Struck By Gunfire In Broad Daylight In Syracuse

Syracuse , N.Y. - Syracuse Police investigating a school bus being hit by gunfire Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the First Student School bus with four children onboard was traveling on the 400 block of Highland Street a little after 2, when people on the side of the road and fired off some shots. A bullet went through the front of the bus and hit the radiator. Luckily no one was injured.

Police found multiple bullet casings at the scene.

They say the bus was not the intended target.

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh released a statement regarding the shooting:

“I’m relieved no one was injured, but as a parent of city school students, I’m angry and upset. The incident is the result of too many guns on our streets and reckless actions by individuals that will not be tolerated in our community. I’m confident the Syracuse Police Department will find those responsible and hold them accountable.

Sadly, this occurrence is a reality that many parents face regularly. It reinforces the urgency of the efforts we are undertaking every day to turn back gun violence. Working with the School District and the Syracuse Police, I promise to continue to do everything in my power to keep our children safe.”
