More Mosquito Viruses Found In Onondaga County

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Onondaga County Health Department says they have found several mosquito viruses in the county.

The West Nile and Flanders virus were detected at East Taft Road in the Town of Cicero. Eastern Equine Encephalitis along with West Nile, Flanders and Highlands J virus were found at Route 298 in East Syracuse.

These are in addition to previous findings of Flanders and Jamestown Canyon virus earlier this month.

Onondaga County Health Commissioner Dr. Kathryn Anderson says, “While mosquito counts in Central New York are relatively low, the presence of these viruses show the importance of taking measures to protect yourself and your family from mosquito bites during outdoor activities throughout the summer.”
