Syracuse, N.Y. - A special Syracuse Common Council meeting has been called for tomorrow.
That's because an error in the city budget has been found and it requires the council to authorize an additional 5.7 million dollars to offset the shortfall.
The city will need to dip into their rainy day savings account for the money or else city taxpayers would be on the hook and next month would see a tax rate increase almost than three times higher than they would be expecting.
One of the issues is that properties owned by St. Joseph's Hospital were listed as taxable when in fact they are not.
Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh says the New York State Office of Real Property Tax Services, is investigating the cause of the error. He said presently, there is no indication of human error.
The special meeting is scheduled for 11am, Friday
