Town of Palermo, N.Y. - We are learning more about the negligent death of a teen who had cerebral palsy.
The mother and stepfather, Lisa and Anthony Waldron face manslaughter and negligent homicide charges in the death of 17 year old Jordan Brooks. Authorities say when the teen who was a student in the Mexico schools died he weighed 50 pounds.
There were many warning signs of Jordan's neglect. Teachers, therapist and aides had been warning of issues for at least 4 years before he died.
Child Protective Services was even contacted but they concluded that the concerns were unfounded. On May 9th, 2021, Jordan died from infection and malnutrition according to authorities. Lisa and Anthony are in jail on $10,000 and $20,000 bail.
This incident is somewhat similar to another child's death in the same town of Palermo back in 2008. Then it was 11 year old Erin Maxwell who was found dead hanging from a rope inside her filthy home. Many warning signs in that case were ignored by some. Oswego County District Attorney Greg Oakes said that that case was a wake up call, to take a close look at the way in which we provide child protective services.
