Syracuse, N.Y. - A State Supreme Court Judge has ruled that the statue of Christopher Columbus in downtown Syracuse must stay where it currently is.
The judge ordered Syracuse and Mayor Ben Walsh not to remove the statue, which the Mayor had planned to do after pressure from some groups that saw the statue as offensive.
The Columbus Monument Corporation and other supporters of the statue sued in May to keep it in Columbus Circle.
The judge agreed with the group’s argument that Walsh does not have the legal authority to remove it .
