AG Letitia James Is Officially Running For Governor

Albany, N.Y. - It what may have been the most anticlimactic announcement in politics in recent years, Attorney General Letita James says she is running for governor.

James ended speculation about her political future as she announced her candidacy with a video on Twitter. She says she has the courage to fight for New Yorkers against those who have a lot of power.

James' decision sets up a primary battle between her and current Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul who took over this summer when Andrew Cuomo stepped down following numerous allegations of sexual harassment.

If James makes it through the primary and is elected, she would be the nation's first Black female governor.

New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams has begun his campaign for New York governor. Williams has filed paperwork to create a campaign committee.

And yesterday, Zephyr Teachout, who got 34% of the vote when she challenged Gov Cuomo in a 2014 Democratic primary, has officially filed to run for New York Attorney General.
