Albany, N.Y. - Mary Bassett is being named the new Health Commissioner for New York State.
Bassett, the former New York City Health Commissioner, was appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul.
She replaces Dr. Howard Zucker, who served in that position for seven years in the Cuomo administration and who said he'd resign when a new commissioner was announced.
Bassett is currently the director of the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University.
