Gov. Hochul Announces Plan To Deal With Statewide Bus Driver Shortage

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Hochul has announced a plan to deal with a shortage of school bus drivers that's been affecting districts statewide.

The governor says officials will be reaching out to drivers who already have their commercial licenses to see if they want to work for independent bus companies or school districts. The Department of Labor is also going to see if drivers who are currently unemployed are looking for work. Meanwhile, officials with the State Department of Motor Vehicles is getting rid of the two-week waiting period between the written exam for a CDL license and the required road test in hopes of speeding up the process of getting bus drivers on the road.
