New York, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo today announced the first 10 winners of a full scholarship including room and board, and among the 10 winners is a teen from Syracuse.
The teen is Peter Smith and all he did to win was get vaccinated. Smith is part of the first group of winners in Cuomo's incentive program to encourage those ages 12-17 to get vaccinated. Every week until July 7th 10 winners will be announced.
Cuomo said that 4-year full scholarship has a value of about $100,000 and is good at any SUNY or CUNY school
Cuomo also announced that the positivity rate for NY is the lowest in the nation at .64% and that over 57% of people in the state have been vaccinated. He said 11 people died in the state in the past 24 hours.
