Onondaga County Facing $100 Million COVID-19 Deficit

Onondaga County may have to its workforce in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

County Executive Ryan McMahon said that roughly 200 jobs would be cut if legislators can't find a solution to the county's $100 million deficit.

If the plan goes through, the county could save nearly 6 million dollars through the rest of this year.

McMahon is also proposing a 4% resident energy sales in order to help boost county revenues, but that decision would have to be voted on by the legislature. That vote is set to take place in July.

The announcement comes after the county offered early retirement packages before the pandemic to 163 of its employees in February in an effort to save money.
