Rome, N.Y. - A Rome man has died after falling through the ice....
Yesterday afternoon was a good time to be outside, but with the warm weather not a good time to be ice fishing.
67-year-old Robert Barnes was doing just that on the Erie Canal when he fell through the ice and was submerged in the water. A passerby attempted to rescue him but was unsuccessful.
Rome Fire Department was able to get Barnes out of the water, and to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
