Homeland Security Shuts Down "Trusted Traveler" Program In NY

Albany, N.Y. - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that New York residents will no longer be able to be enrolled in its "trusted traveler" program.

The decision is due to the new "Green Light" law which went into effect in December, and allows people without legal permission to be in the US, to apply for driver's licenses. The law also prohibits the DMV from providing information to immigration offcials.

The suspension of the program, used by travelers to quickly move through customs and security at airports, is effective immediately. New York State officials say they are looking at their legal options.
