Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo says he's open to changing the state's controversial new bail reform legislation:
It went into effect January 1st and eliminates pretrial detention and cash bail for a large number of non-violent felony and misdemeanor cases.
Critics say that prevents judges from taking the necessary steps to keep dangerous criminals off the streets. Yesterday, the governor called the law a work in progress and said he'll collaborate with the Legislature to come up with a solution. Lawmakers return to Albany tomorrow.
Over the weekend, the Attorney General and the Senate Majority Leader said they both consider changes.
