Syracuse, N.Y. - Onondaga County DA Bill Fitzpatrick has released new information on an officer-involved shooting in Syracuse.
Fitzpatrick says someone inside a home on Grant Boulevard called police Tuesday to report a man acting odd. When officers arrived, 22-year-old Michael Viola was found in a bedroom where police tried to talk him down before eventually using a Taser. That's when Viola charged at officers with a hatchet, causing them to open fire.
Viola is in critical condition and is expected to survive.
The names of the officers involved haven't been released. Their names will likely be released on Friday.
