Cuomo Orders Minimum Wage Hike For Some Tipped Workers

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo has directed the state Labor Department to eliminate the subminimum wage for over 70,000 tipped workers.

That means people with jobs such as tow-truck drivers, hairdressers and nail salon workers could soon see bigger paychecks.

The governor's order will be phased in over the next several months. Cuomo says studies show the current tipping system mostly affects the bottom lines of women and minorities who have jobs that help keep the state's economy moving forward.
