Town of Salina, N.Y. - Onondaga County has its first case of human West Nile virus.
Health Commissioner Dr. Indu Gupta announced today that an adult residing in the town of Salina has been hospitalized and is in stable condition.
West Nile virus is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito and is considered to be endemic in Central New York.
Gupta explains that, “Mosquitoes carrying the virus have been found in mosquito traps in the town of Salina and nearby areas this summer.”
Onondaga and Oswego counties have both sprayed recently to combat both Triple E and the West Nile Virus.
