Syracuse, N.Y. - The owner of ShoppingTown Mall,Moonbeam INC says it plans to file bankruptcy in an effort to avoid a tax foreclosure.
They said in a release they expect the federal bankruptcy court to treat the mall fairly and without any preconceived biases," he said in a statement. “The bankruptcy proceedings and recent appraisals will expose how the Town of Dewitt and Onondaga County have grossly over-inflated the assesment.
The mall’s move was not unexpected. Onondaga County is trying to seize the mall due to more than $9.7 million in unpaid property taxes dating back to 2015.
