Cuomo, Schumer, Trump, React To Weekend Mass Shootings

Albany, N.Y. - Governor Cuomo is calling for change after the weekend shootings in Ohio and Texas.

In a statement, the governor said the country is under attack from within and continuing to ignore what's happening will only lead to more bloodshed.

He also said during an interview that he believes the violence is being fueled by rhetoric coming from Washington. When asked if he thought President Trump would do anything about what's happening, Cuomo said no.

For his part, President Trump says "hate has no place in the United States." His comments came after he spoke at length with Attorney General William Barr, FBI Director Christopher Wray and the governors of Texas and Ohio. The President is expected to speak Monday Morning about the shootings. Trump, is issuing a proclamation, ordering flags be flown at half-staff.

The top Democrat in the Senate is now calling for an emergency session to deal with gun control.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should have senators come back from recess to vote on a gun control bill that has passed the House. The bill would close background check loopholes that Schumer says allow people who shouldn't have guns to get them. Officials say the bill would not have prevented either shooter from obtaining firearms.

McConnell is recovering after an injury. The Kentucky Republican fractured his shoulder after tripping on his home's patio.
