Syracuse, N.Y. - Experts say that it's time to call in the sharpshooters to get control of the deer running rampant in Syracuse:
The deer are not only a nuisance but they are spreading ticks which carry Lyme Disease.
At a meeting last night at Nottingham High School the group recommended bringing in USDA Sharpshooters to kill the deer. To collapse the tick population and reduce the threat of Lyme Disease, experts say there must be fewer than 10 deer per square mile. On Syracuse’s east side the number is more than 50 deer per square mile.
The venison would be donated to The Food Bank.
The State DEC still needs to give its OK before the plan can move forward.
