The Syracuse Diocese says they have concluded their settlement program with payments of nearly 11 milllion dollars to compensate victims of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy.
Bishop Robert Cunningham announced the program on Ash Wednesday of 2018, permitting those people who had already filed a claim against the diocese to receive compensation. Victims met with attorneys Kenneth Feinberg and Camille Biros, who handled settlements for 9/11 and the BP Oil Spill. A total of 79 out of 88 cases were resolved, with nearly 11 million dollars in compensation paid. All money paid came from diocese insurance. No money came from donations made by parishoners.
