SU Season Ends In First Round NCAA Loss To Baylor

The SU Men's Basketball season has come to an end.

The were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Baylor Friday night. The score was 78 to 69.

Baylor made nearly half of their three point shots knocking down 16. It is the most 3-pointers that Syracuse has ever given up in an NCAA Tournament game.

"Well obviously we missed him, he's out point guard," said Boeheim regarding not having Senior Frank Howard. "I'm not going to sit here and make excuses he isn't here. Would we have like to had him? Yeah." Howard did not travel to Utah for the game. He was suspended by the Athletic Department after reportedly failing a drug test.

The Orange end the season 20 -14. They got off to a rough start amid high-expectations following last year's run in the NCAA Tournament. Early season losses included Oregon, UB, and Old Dominion. Major wins included road wins against Duke and Ohio State.

"We didn't have the consistency from the beginning missing Frank for a long-time, and then obviously at the end," Boeheim said looking back on the season. "It wasn't the year I think it could have been but all-in-all I would say it's been a solid year."

Prospects are looking good for the Orange. Freshmen Jalen Carey and Buddy Boehiem showed solid development over the season. Sophomore Marek Dolezaj also made strides following his break-out Freshman season. Junior Elijah Hughes also stepped up at key-points through out the season.

Oshae Brissett has been considered and on-again, off-again first-round NBA Draft pick but his stock has turned downward recently. He could still go, but many projections have him heading to the NBA after next season.

As for who is leaving. Senior Frank Howard has used his eligibility. He is expected to try and make it in the NBA Draft.

Junior Tyus Battle, who considered heading to the Draft last year, is all but certain to go this year. However, after the loss to Baylor he said that he has not made a final decision.
