Binghamton Kindergarten Teacher Killed By Alligator

Hilton Head, S.C. - A Binghamton kindergarten teacher was killed by an alligator while trying to protect her dog.

45-year-old Cassandra Cline was out for a walk at a resort in Hilton Head South Carolina when the alligator attacked her border collie. Authorities say she tried to save her dog and that's when the alligator attacked her.

"The dog is fine," said authorities with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. "It appears the alligator grabbed the leash instead of the dog and it was some sort of tug of war with her trying to getting the dog back via the leash and inturn the alligator drug her and the dog into the water."

Cline was a teacher for Union-Endicott schools.

Authorities say they have since found and killed the alligator that killed Cline.
