New York City, N.Y. - Sheldon Silver, the ex-speaker of the NY state Assembly, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
This sentence is less than what he received before, which was 12 years.
The judge said Silver’s age , he's 74 and the fines she plans on placing on him, including one for $1.75 million dollars, were the reason for a lower sentence.
Silver was convicted a second time in May of selling his office for $4 million in kickbacks, plus $1 million in profits.
Before he was arrested in 2015, he was one of the most powerful men in Albany, along with Senate majority head Dean Skelos and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
