On Thursday, June 21, 2018, at approximately 5:07pm, Syracuse Police Officers responded to 123 Neutral Court in regards to a suspicious person with a weapon investigation. Police had received information that Elijah Coston, 17, of Syracuse, may be in possession of a handgun at this location.
When officers arrived on scene, they observed Coston seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle. Another male, identified as Shanen Hayes, 16, of Syracuse was observed leaning into the passenger window of the vehicle prior to running from police. Officers pursued Hayes and observed a black handgun in his right hand. Officer Darrin Ettinger was able to take Hayes into custody inside 123 Neutral Court. Lt. Geno Turo located a loaded Kel-Tec Model PF9 9mm semiautomatic handgun near where Hayes was taken into custody.
Coston was taken into custody without incident. Coston and Hayes were arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of a Marihuana. They were lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending their arraignments.
