Schools across CNY are adding days to the calendar because they are out of snow days.
It is State Law that schools must be in session for 180 days. Additionally, there are different requirements for after school programs that vary on a per-program basis.
Schools only plan for a handful of snow days. The exact number depends on the district.
Parts of CNY are bracing for some heavy lake effect snow. The greatest snowfall amounts began Tuesday night and will persist through Wednesday morning in southern Oswego County, northern Cayuga County, and northwestern Onondaga County. Before noon those inside of the band should expect to see an additional six inches of fresh snow.
Today snow could cause more schools to close and go over their allotment.
Districts in the region that need to add days will either take back days during spring break or summer vacation.
