Thanksgiving Travel: Everything You Need To Know

This Thanksgiving travel season is expected to rank as one of the busiest ever. AAA is projecting that 54-million Americans will hit the road this Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. According to a forecast from American Airlines, with 2.93 million people flying the day before Thanksgiving. Hancock Airport officials recommend anyone flying out of Syracuse to get to the Airport two hours before their flight.

Its Going To Feel More Link New Years Day Than Thanksgiving Day

If you can wait until Thanksgiving to travel over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house, you should. Occasional snow showers and whipping winds could make for some treacherous travel over the river and through the woods. Officials say that on the Thruway there could be whiteout conditions in some spots. Those snow-showers will linger through tonight as the temperature plummets into the single digits. It will be bitterly cold on Thanksgiving, however it dry.

All Lanes Are Open!

With so many people on the roads for the holiday, Governor Cuomo has announced that lane closures for construction on roads and bridges have been suspended. He says construction projects will be suspended through Monday at 6am.

Move Over, Or Get Pulled Over

Cuomo also reminds drivers to follow the state's Move Over Law -- which requires motorists to slow down, and safely move over when approaching police vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, tow trucks, and maintenance vehicles that are stopped on the shoulders.

Don't Drink And Drive

New Yorkers are also reminded that state and local law enforcement will be participating in an impaired driving enforcement campaign through the long weekend. Troopers will be cracking down on drinking and driving through Sunday.  That means drivers can expect to see more DWI patrols and sobriety checkpoints.  During last year's Thanksgiving travel period more than 240 DWI arrests were made.
