Vance's remarks drew protests from local progressive groups, with Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows among those speaking out against his visit. Despite the controversy, Vance reiterated the administration's resolve to uncover and address fraud, stating, "I suspect we're going to find hundreds of millions more dollars every single month that we look in the state of Maine."
