Apparently it doesn’t suck here after all.
In a ranking which came out yesterday of the best places to live in America, 3 upstate cities made the cut and came in surprisingly high:
Syracuse- #30
Buffalo- #33
Rochester- #39
That’s 3 of the top 40 cities in America, right here in Upstate New York.
Now most of the time, we don’t fair too well when these lists come out.
We have bad taxes and crazy politicians and our share of other issues.
But we also have some of the greatest natural beauty you can find and some of the most historically rich, and affordable, housing in the nation.
And we also have some of the nicest people; not you, of course, but everyone else is pretty darn nice around here.
Not to mention, we get all four seasons (which you don’t get when you flee to Florida) and most people find them enjoyable and invigorating.
So when you take everything into account, and try to determine where it would just be nice to live, our part of America is right near the top of the heap.
Remember it, enjoy it, and don’t let anyone talk down our state.
Of course we’ve got things to fix, which helps explain why all of the young people are heading for (supposedly) greener pastures in North Carolina and the like, but there are great strengths here as well.
And on balance, when you crunch the numbers, it turns out Upstate New York looks pretty darn good overall.
