Syracuse police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Wednesday (April 8) on the south side of the city, leaving a 39-year-old man dead and a 10-year-old boy injured. Officers responded to reports of shots fired at the intersection of Warner Avenue and Webster Avenue around 3 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the adult victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body and the child with a graze wound to the leg.
Both victims were transported to Upstate University Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries, while the boy's injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The Syracuse Police Department has classified the man's death as a homicide and is actively investigating the incident.
Multiple officers were on the scene, and evidence markers, including those next to shell casings, were scattered across the road. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact their Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time. The community is encouraged to assist by providing any relevant information that could aid in solving the case.
