The City of Syracuse is actively seeking truck drivers to prepare for the upcoming winter season. In collaboration with the New York State Department of Labor and CNY Works, the city will host a job fair on Thursday (September 25) from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the CNY Works Career Center on James Street. The event aims to recruit commercial drivers for positions in the Departments of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and the Water Department.
Applicants must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and will need to pass a driving test. Pre-registration for the event is encouraged and can be completed online at goto.syr.gov/CDLJobFair. Those without a CDL are welcome to attend to learn about obtaining one through city and state programs.
First Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Ann Fordock highlighted the benefits of city employment, including a strong healthcare plan and pension. The hiring event will offer same-day interviews, and managers may extend job offers on the spot to expedite the hiring process. Interested residents must live in Syracuse, although some exceptions apply.
For those unable to attend, information about available positions and salaries can be found at syr.gov/jobs. The event location is ADA accessible, with parking available at the back of the CNY Works Center.
