In Syracuse, New York, the Central New York (CNY) Farmers Market will receive $46,100 as part of over $1.12 million in state funding announced by Governor Kathy Hochul. The funding comes from the Farmers’ Market Resiliency Grant Program, which aims to enhance market infrastructure and improve access to local products for consumers.

The grant awarded to the Seven Valleys Health Coalition, which supports the CNY Farmers Market, will help build out infrastructure, such as booths and signage, and develop electronic capabilities like online sales. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create a resilient food supply chain in New York State. According to Governor Hochul, "Our farmers’ markets are some of our greatest assets in getting healthy, fresh, New York-grown food directly into the communities who need them most."

Between 2019 and 2021, about 10 percent of New Yorkers faced food insecurity. The funding seeks to address this issue by making fresh, affordable food more accessible, particularly in underserved communities. The program also supports the use of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits at farmers’ markets, which generated over $10 million in revenue for participating farmers in 2024.

The Farmers’ Market Resiliency Grant Program has expanded significantly, with an increase of 19 projects over the previous round. This funding is part of Governor Hochul’s commitment to strengthening local food systems and supporting New York farmers.
