A fire at the Cicero Estate Apartments on Pardee Road in Cicero led to three people being hospitalized on Tuesday (April 15). Emergency crews responded to the blaze around 2:10 p.m., finding heavy smoke and flames visible from miles away. The fire was contained in about 45 minutes, according to Cicero Assistant Fire Chief Jon Barrett.
The three individuals were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation, as reported by Cicero Police Lt. James Meyers. Fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire.
The fire caused significant damage, destroying the roof and breaking most of the front windows of the affected section. The building's firewalls helped prevent the flames from spreading further, but the damaged section is expected to be a total loss and will need to be demolished. A woman living in the building mentioned that one of her cats was rescued, but another remains missing.
Six fire departments, including Cicero, Liverpool, DeWitt, East Syracuse, Hinsdale, and South Bay, responded to the incident. Due to safety concerns, the emergency management team used a drone to survey the building from above. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
