Upstate University Hospital's mobile mammography van has launched its annual tour across Central New York, offering free breast cancer screenings to women aged 40 and older, regardless of insurance status. The van provides high-quality, low-dose 3-D mammograms, with images reviewed by licensed radiologists. The program, which began in 2019, has already served over 4,790 women and identified 20 breast cancers.

The van's tour will cover 17 locations, including areas as far north as Old Forge, east to Utica, and west to Waterloo. The initiative aims to overcome barriers such as transportation, insurance gaps, and cost, making screenings accessible to more women. Wendy Hunt, the program director, emphasized the importance of this service in tackling these challenges by partnering with local businesses and municipalities.

Appointments are recommended and can be scheduled by calling 315-464-2588 or visiting the Upstate website. The van's schedule includes stops in Brookfield, Camden, Cazenovia, and many other locations throughout the spring and summer.
