Cleanup efforts are ongoing in Oswego County following a severe snowstorm that left several feet of snow in the area. As of Monday (February 24), local and county roads have seen significant improvements, according to the Oswego County Emergency Management Office. The storm, which began on Friday (February 14), resulted in 79 inches of snow in some areas, causing at least 42 structural collapses.

Officials are urging residents to evacuate immediately if they hear any cracking or popping noises in their homes. The Oswego County Fire Coordinator, Shane Laws, emphasized the importance of calling 911 if a structure appears unstable. A specialized team, New York Task Force 2, has been deployed to assist in structural collapse rescues, including a recent rescue in Volney.

A county-wide state of emergency remains in effect, along with a travel advisory. While travel is not completely restricted, residents are advised to drive cautiously due to high snowbanks creating blind spots.

For those needing assistance with snow removal, the Oswego County Purchasing Department has compiled a list of snow removal services available on their website. Residents are responsible for the cost of these services.

Cathleen Palmitesso, Director of the Oswego County Emergency Management Office, reminded residents to follow safety protocols, especially regarding downed wires, and to check on elderly or disabled neighbors, as reported by CNYCentral.

The storm's impact is still being assessed, and officials fear the number of structural collapses could rise as the snow continues to sit. For more information, residents can contact the Oswego County Emergency Management Office or visit their website.
