Madison County Man Arrested After Threats To Shoot Cars, Held Police At Bay

Town of Sullivan, N.Y. - Some tenses moments in a Madison County town yesterday as a man with two guns held Police at bay for awhile:

Around 1pm Wednesday Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies and State Police responded to an area on Smithridge Road in the Town Sullivan after a 911 call said there was a man pointing a rifle at passing vehicles.

When they arrived they found 71 year old Robert Christie with what appeared to be a handgun in his hand and a rifle propped up against the garage door.

Traffic was shut down in the area as Negotiators talked Christie into surrendering.

The firearms displayed by Christie were later learned to be BB guns.

He's charged with two counts of menacing a police officer (Class D Felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).

Christie was transported to the Madison County Jail, where he was arraigned in CAP Court and held on $2,500 cash bail.
