Police in Syracuse, New York, are investigating the discovery of a body found on Monday (January 27) in a parking garage near the Syracuse VA Medical Center and Syracuse University. The body was discovered in the VA garage on Irving Avenue, adjacent to the hospital and across from the JMA Wireless Dome. The deceased individual has not been identified, and police confirmed that the person was not affiliated with the university.
The discovery prompted a response from the Syracuse Police Department, Veterans Affairs Police, and Syracuse University campus police. An alert was sent to the university community to inform them of the situation. Initially, there was a mistake in the alert regarding the location, which was later corrected to specify the VA garage as the site of the discovery.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
In response to the incident, Syracuse University has reminded students of the mental health and support resources available, including the Barnes Center at The Arch, Student Outreach and Support, and Hendricks Chapel.
Anyone who needs to talk can call 800-273-8255 no matter the time of day.
