New details have emerged about the massive fire that destroyed two apartment buildings in Baldwinsville on Friday night (January 24). According to North West Fire District Chief Tony McIntyre, the blaze started in the attic, away from smoke alarms and sprinklers, allowing it to spread rapidly. The fire affected 24 apartments, leaving the buildings at the New Legacy Apartments complex roofless and exposing charred remains.

One resident required treatment for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported. The fire's cause remains unknown, and authorities are investigating. Residents like Angela Murray credited her dog, Rocco, for alerting them to the danger. Rocco's barking prompted neighbors to evacuate, as the fire alarms did not sound until everyone was already outside.

CNY Central reports that some residents have been displaced and are struggling to rebuild their lives. Several families have started fundraising efforts to recover from the loss. Unfortunately, the aftermath of the fire has also seen at least four units burglarized, according to Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael Lefancheck. The community has rallied to support the victims, with successful donation drives organized by the Baldwinsville Central School District.
