The Syracuse Police Department has issued a warning to vehicle owners in the city about a recent surge in car thefts. Since October, thieves have targeted nearly 30 vehicles, specifically Infiniti Q50, Lexus, Nissan, and Toyota models. The police believe that information circulating on social media about how to steal these vehicles, along with the availability of a reprogramming device, has contributed to the rise in thefts.

According to Syracuse.com, thieves are breaking into vehicles and using a reprogramming device to erase the owner's key fob and create a new key. This device can be easily purchased online, making it accessible to criminals. The trend is not limited to Syracuse, as similar thefts have been reported nationwide.

The police urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity by calling 911. They emphasize the importance of community awareness and action in combating this crime wave. CNY Central reports that the police department is working to address the issue and prevent further thefts.
