Global Citizen is announcing the “Stand Up For Ukraine” campaign, featuring a Social Media Rally on April 8 and a pledging event on April 9, hosted by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. “Stand Up For Ukraine” is in response to a new video shared by Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where he called on the international community to support people affected by the invasion.
The Social Media Rally will engage citizens from around the world, asking each to call on their governments, institutions, corporations, and individuals to direct funding to support humanitarian efforts for Ukraine, and to support refugees everywhere. The Rally will culminate the following day, when world leaders will gather to pledge funds to support this urgent humanitarian crisis.
It’s estimated that around 12 million people currently need assistance due to the war in Ukraine. More than 6.5 million are displaced internally and, in less than three weeks, over 3.2 million people have left Ukraine and fled into neighboring countries. These numbers are only expected to rise.
