Syracuse Police To Increase Patrols Near Columbus Statue After Vandalism

Syracuse, N.Y - The Syracuse Police Department will increase patrols around Columbus Circle after some issues involving vandalism.

The ongoing controversy surrounding the Columbus Statue was has been reignited after a State Supreme Court Judge ruled that the city and Mayor Ben Walsh do not have the authority to take down the statue.

Syracuse Police say they respect the right of citizens to exercise their 1st Amendment but damage to private or public property will not be tolerated and violators will be arrested.

SPD will increase patrols and camera monitoring of the property.

Anyone observing suspicious activity in or around Columbus Circle is asked to call 911.
