Albany, N.Y. - You can go fishing even if you don't have a license this weekend.
February 19th and 20th, New Yorkers can cast a line and hope to land a big one in the States first Free Fishing Weekend of 2022.
The annual February free fishing weekend is a perfect time to get outside and discover the wide range of winter fishing opportunities in New York and for first-time anglers to head to waters with ice thick enough to access safely and give ice fishing a try.
The DEC urges people to use extreme caution if you plan to fish on ice.
