Onondaga County Legislature Approves Funding For Sheriff's Body Cams

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Onondaga County Legislature has voted to fund a body camera program for the Sheriff's Office.

The resolution passed along party lines with Republicans voting yes.

Democrats wanted to delay the vote, saying they felt the Republicans were rushing the vote without having a long-term program established.

The request for 606-thousand dollars came from County Executive Ryan McMahon. It came following a dust-up over the initiative last month.

It is less than a nearly 1-million dollar request by Sheriff Gene Conway which would outfit cameras for not only deputies but also jail workers and civil employees in his office.
