Onondaga Sheriff Gene Conway Says He Would Welcome Body Cams

Syracuse, N.Y. - Onondaga County Sheriff Gene Conway held a news conference today in response to body-worn cameras and a news article that insinuates that he doesn't want them.

Conway said he would welcome the money to start a body cam program next week and said the statement in the article that said he "refuses" the body cams is "inaccurate, it is misleading and in this environment it is inciteful" .

Conway says he supports body cams...but says it is not likely they will have them until next April due to budget issues.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said that the sheriff's use of body-worn cameras could benefit everyone and he indicated he would set aside money for the cameras.

Conway says he hasn't had any conversations with McMahon.
