Speed The Cause Of Snowmobile Crash That Severed Operator's Arm

Marion, N.Y. - We've learned more about how a man lost his arm riding a snowmobile last month.

State Police in Wayne County say that 54-year-old Grant Spalding was going too fast when he slammed his sled into a guardrail in Marion on Jan. 31. He was ejected and sent careening into the air. His arm hit the post and was severed at the elbow.

Troopers say that Spalding was in shock when he walked to a bar near the crash where he asked for help. An officer did recover the arm but it was not able to be reattached.
